Rain, cake and 30 brilliant people at Minster Beach

Cold, wet and absolutely worth it.

On Sunday 18 October we headed back to Minster Beach for our October community walk. I won’t pretend the weather was on our side. It was cold, it was grey and it was raining, and I did wonder how many people would turn up.

I needn’t have worried. Around 30 of you came along, which honestly made my day. We even managed to just miss the heavy downpour, so I’m calling that a win.

There is something special about walking together when the conditions aren’t perfect. Nobody was there to look polished or to hit a certain pace. We were just people who decided to show up for ourselves anyway, chatting, laughing and keeping each other going along the seafront.

That is exactly what these walks are about, and exactly what KËRLORA is about too.

Cakes, treats and some very brave kids

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we finished the walk with breast cancer awareness themed cakes, which felt like a lovely way to remember why looking after ourselves matters so much.

The children were rewarded with Halloween treat boxes, and they truly deserved them. They did so well in the cold, and seeing them walking alongside everyone was one of my favourite parts of the morning.

Nobody has to go it alone

I started these walks because movement has helped me so much with my own health anxiety, and I wanted to create a space where nobody has to go it alone. Every time I see new faces, and old faces coming back with friends, it reminds me how much this community has grown.

Thank you to every single one of you who came along. You made a wet Sunday morning feel warm. You can see more from the walk over on our Instagram.

Join us on the next walk

Our next community walk is at Hucking Forest, near Maidstone, on Sunday 29 November from 11.30am to 1.30pm. We’ll meet at The Hook and Hatchet pub, where there is free parking. Everyone is welcome and you can go at your own pace.

Booking your place helps me know how many of you to expect. I would love to see you there.
